We both read it years ago and it nice to see our original thoughts on it hold up,i.e., one of the best horror stories ever written and a nice social history on the old west as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313069753393877260.post-21980609811223590032007-10-21T13:57:00.000+07:002007-10-21T13:57:00.000+07:00I too read and very much enjoyed Moon Dance, thoug...I too read and very much enjoyed Moon Dance, though I am not usually drawn to the Horror Section in the Bookstore. I picked it up at a store in Bangkok early in my working relationship with Somtow in Bangkok Opera's production of Aida. Before reading it I asked Somtow if he would sign it for me. He grinned michievously and signed, "To Todd, When you are through with this we'll probably never speak again, so enjoy! Love Somtow. At first it was just kind of a novelty, "Hey, the Aida conductor is a writer, cool!" But then I got to know Somtow better while I was reading Moon Dance, and while also experienceing his artistry as a conductor, Opera producer, composer, painter, musician, and mentor to young musicians. I mean it's ridiculous what his imagination and determination have created in literature, music and and art. He's the kind of guy that makes one feel at first lazy, then like you really want to accomplish more more in life. . . then finally lazy again. Glad to know you Somtow!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313069753393877260.post-36015315550778159362007-10-21T13:55:00.000+07:002007-10-21T13:55:00.000+07:00Moon Dance is one of the best horror stories I've ...Moon Dance is one of the best horror stories I've ever read. I might add it is nothing to the horror inflicted upon Native Americans by all those good old boys in blue in the 19th Century. If people can't distinguish between fiction and reality perhaps they should confine themselves to the "Dick and Jane" readers for the little people.<BR/>By the way, Somtow I've just about finished rereading Moon Dance and it is still one of the most interesting takes on werewolves and the old west.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313069753393877260.post-42343199149195522052007-10-20T01:15:00.000+07:002007-10-20T01:15:00.000+07:00Great point asking a work of art should not "draw ...Great point asking a work of art should not "draw us in so much that we do in fact believe" the actors of the film. Kite Runner should be applauded for its raw depiction of life in Afghanistan. Film has the power to open an audience's eyes to new cultures, new worlds; it is shameful that this film is being criticized for bringing a voice to the oppressions the Afghani people have faced.
